One thing that's always bugged me about Nethack is my character seems to always be hungry. I've learnt to scrimp and save every ration, slime mould, egg and fortune cookie I find but it's never enough. So I invariably find myself passing out and being killed by a kolbold, grid bug or some other equally pathetic dungeon dweller.
This last week playing iNethack I've been trying out eating different corpses . After reading the YAAP and learning that monster qualities can be inherited that way. So far I've died at least three times from eating a rotten corpse and inherited zero traits. I guess the lesson is only eat corpses when they're fresh, I had been carrying them around like food rations hoping to make them last.
My plan now is two fold:
1) Scrimp and save food as always, eating only fresh corpses.
2) I think that I am firstly spending too much time in each level, looking for loot and trying to get my XP up. So I'm going to try to zip through the upper levels and hope it all just works out.

Blogging everyones giving it another go
So I came across this article (http://garote.bdmonkeys.net/nethack/index.html) two days ago, which details the authors first Nethack ascension after some 20 years of playing the game.
This has inspired me to attempt a blog. In order to document my attempt at my own ascension.
I've been playing for some 18 years I first played in 1992. I discovered the game, as Hack, by accident in a university computer lab. It's fascinated and frustrated me ever since. No matter what fancy, modern photo-realistic computer game I encounter, I always come back to Nethack.
My dilemma is whether or not to use the resources of the Nethack wiki as the author did. I'm going to start this journey by resisting temptation. I have mostly been able to so far. Although I have learned a few tricks from the few brief peeks I've taken and those outlined in the article above.
You can follow my progress here: http://alt.org/nethack/plr.php?player=GaloisGhost
I will also be playing iNetHack on my iPhone to try out things on my daily commutes, but I feel only a provable ascenion counts. Therefore only an ascension on http://alt.org/nethack will count.
Anyway here goes...
